The affected units have serial numbers ranging from 001 to 030, which are located on the Rating Plate on the back of the grill. Other Cheftech gas grill models are not included in this recall.

The recall was initiated after Advanced Catalyst Systems discovered that sustained strong winds blowing into the back scoop of the hood can force hot exhaust through the control panel. This can cause the front panel to overheat, which may compromise the integrity of the gas valve assembly and potentially cause a fire. No injuries have been reported in connection with this hazard.

The grills were sold for $1,800 at six Advanced Catalyst Systems regional retail stores in Knoxville, TN, prior to March 17, 2005. Consumers should stop using the grill immediately and contact Advanced Catalyst Systems to arrange to receive a free, consumer-installed safety retrofit kit. The company has already notified known purchasers, and all grills associated with this recall have been corrected.
