Plain-English summary
CFM Keanall, of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, is recalling approximately 1,500 Great Outdoors "Horizon" gas grills. The recalled units are model numbers GH450SBP and GH450XBP, which are 36,000 BTU 450-square-inch grills with a dark blue lid and black plastic side shelves. The model number is located on the CSA approval sticker on the back of the front panel. Grills with a fluorescent label on the carton reading "Contains Safety Enhancement" and other Horizon model gas grills are not included in this recall.
The recall was issued because certain wind conditions blowing at these grills can cause overheating or flashbacks under the control panel. This can damage the gas supply hose, causing an uncontrolled flame, or allow flames to come into contact with the user's hands, resulting in burns. Six incidents have been reported, but no injuries have been reported.
The grills were sold at True Value stores nationwide from February 2003 through June 2003 for between $180 and $200. Because the manufacturer is no longer in business, a remedy is no longer available. Consumers should discard or destroy the product. For more information, consumers can call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 301-595-7054).
