What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect (ladder collapse) with a reported injury (fractured leg), which meets the rubric criteria for 'Severe' (significant injury reports).
Plain-English summary
LB International Inc. is recalling approximately 1,500 Stow-Anywhere ladders sold by Hammacher Schlemmer. The recall involves three sizes of aluminum, multi-purpose ladders: 6-foot (model 99067), 7-foot (model 99068), and 8-foot (model 99069). These ladders were sold nationwide via Hammacher Schlemmer stores, catalogs, and website from April 2003 through February 2004 for between $140 and $200.
The ladders present a hazard because a rung can release or a side rail can bend unexpectedly, which may cause the ladder to collapse and result in a fall. LB International has received a report of one individual who fractured her leg while using the ladder.
Consumers who purchased these ladders should stop using them immediately. Hammacher Schlemmer is directly notifying consumers and providing information to return the ladders for a refund. Consumers can also call Hammacher Schlemmer at (800) 233-4800 or email [email protected] with "Ladder Return" in the subject line.
