The recall is due to a safety defect where a spring mechanism attached to the lid can break and detach from the toy. This poses a choking hazard to young children. Avon has received one report of the spring mechanism detaching, but no injuries have been reported.

The toys were sold for about $13 through independent Avon sales representatives and the Avon website from August 2003 through November 2003. Consumers should call Avon toll-free at (800) 445-AVON between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, for instructions on how to remove the spring mechanism. Known purchasers are being sent direct mail notification of this recall.
