The toy is a combination roly-poly and jack-in-the-box made of plastic, measuring approximately 4 inches by 5 inches. It is available in several color combinations and was packaged in a carton labeled "Ambi toys Jack in the Ball E153." The manufacturer is Europlastic, Amsterdam, Holland. Under use and abuse testing, the button (belly button) that activates the jack could fall out, creating a potential choking hazard for young children. CPSC safety standards prohibit such small parts in toys for children under three years of age because they can be aspirated, choked on, or swallowed.
Approximately 20,000 units were distributed nationwide since January 1985, retailing for approximately $10.00. The CPSC is not aware of any reports of injuries involving this toy. Consumers should remove the toy from use immediately and return it to the retailer where purchased for a full refund.
