IKEA Home Furnishings is recalling approximately 25,000 BERTBY glass-door wall cabinets. The recall is due to a defect where some cabinets have the wrong sized screws for the safety bracket. This issue can result in the cabinet not being properly secured to the wall, creating a hazard where the cabinet can fall and injure nearby consumers.
The affected cabinets are about 67 inches high and feature the product name "BERTBY," article number 380.472.10, and supplier number 14709 on a label located on the underside of the bottom panel or the top side of the top panel. These units were sold at IKEA stores nationwide from January 2002 through September 9, 2004, for approximately $100 each.
IKEA has received two reports of cabinets falling, but no injuries have been reported. Consumers should contact IKEA at (888) 966-4532 or visit www.ikea-usa.com to determine if their cabinet requires a repair. IKEA is offering a free repair kit, and consumers can also visit their local IKEA store to pick up replacement screws and repair instructions.
