Southern Wood Products, of Sparta, Tenn., is recalling approximately 600 children's toy boxes. The recalled units measure 24 inches by 16 inches by 35 inches and were sold in oak, white, cherry, and natural colors. The boxes were manufactured in the USA and bear manufacture date codes 8502-021502A and 8502-030702A on a sticker located on the back or bottom of the unit.

The recall was issued because the middle lid support hinge can collapse suddenly. This defect can cause injury to a child's head, neck, fingers, or hands, or create an entrapment hazard for young children. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

The toy boxes were sold through the JC Penney catalogue from February 2002 until March 2002. Consumers who purchased the toy box should stop using it immediately and contact Southern Wood Products to receive a free replacement hinge. Purchasers were also sent direct mail notification of this recall.
