Plain-English summary
Lawn-Boy Inc. is recalling approximately 36,000 walk-behind lawn mowers, including the 21-inch Easy Mulch Silver, Silver Pro, and GoldPro Series models. The recall involves mowers sold nationwide from February 2002 to August 2002 for between $250 and $580. The affected units have the words "EASY MULCH" printed in bold black letters on the top of the mulch cover plate.
The recall is due to a defect in the mulch plates, which were manufactured using the wrong material, making them brittle and prone to cracking or breaking if struck by a stone or stick while mowing. If the plate breaks, objects or pieces of the plate could potentially injure the operator or bystanders. Lawn-Boy has received five reports of broken mulch plates, but no injuries or property damage have been reported.
Consumers should stop using these mowers in the mulching mode immediately. To receive a replacement cover plate, consumers should contact Lawn-Boy toll-free at (866) 336-5207 or visit www.lawnboy.com.
