Plain-English summary
Cybex International, Inc. is recalling about 4,400 units of four models of arm curl machines: VR2, VR2TA, Eagle, and VR3. The recall involves exercise machines that allow users to perform bicep curls using selected weights. The affected machines were sold directly to gyms by Cybex or its distributors from November 1996 through October 2008 for between $3,700 and $4,200.
The recall is being issued because the swivel handles on these machines can break off from the frame. This failure can cause users to hit themselves in the face or head, posing an impact injury hazard. The firm has received 108 reports of incidents, including 12 reports of injury to users. One of these injuries involved the loss of sight to one eye.
