Black & Decker 12-inch Miter Saws Recalled for Blade Detachment Risk

Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc. is recalling approximately 6,400 “Industry & Construction” 12-inch miter saws, specifically models 3660 TY1 and 3680 TY1. The recall is due to a defect where bolts on the saws can loosen, causing the blade to detach and posing a risk of lacerations to consumers.

The affected saws were sold nationwide at home centers and hardware stores from January 1992 through December 1993 for between $330 and $410. The saws feature a charcoal gray housing, and the model numbers are located on the nameplate on the top of the housing. Date codes range from 9201 through 9340, stamped into the end cap or back of the saws. No other Black & Decker miter saws are involved in this recall.

Black & Decker has received seven reports of consumers suffering lacerations when the blades detached. Consumers should stop using these saws immediately and call Black & Decker toll-free at (888) 771-4540 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, to receive a free replacement bolt to repair the saw.
