DeWALT 12-inch Sliding Compound Miter Saws Recalled for Injury Hazard
DeWALT is recalling approximately 1.36 million 12-inch sliding compound miter saws because the rear safety guard can break or detach, creating a risk of projectiles and laceration injuries. Consumers should stop using the saws and contact DeWALT for a free repair.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The source reports nine documented laceration injuries among 571 reports of the hazard. This constitutes actual injury reports from a risk-of-harm product (a power tool with moving blades), meeting the "Severe" threshold for reported injury/harm without deaths.
Plain-English summary
DeWALT Industrial Tool Company is recalling DeWALT Models DWS779, DWS780, and DHS790 12-inch Sliding Compound Miter Saws. The recalled models have a yellow body with black accents and the DeWALT logo.
The rear safety guard on these miter saws can break or detach, posing an injury hazard from projectiles that can strike the user and bystanders, and a laceration hazard to the user from direct contact with the saw blade. DeWALT has received 571 reports of the rear safety guard assembly or components breaking or detaching, including nine reports of laceration injuries.
About 1,364,000 units were sold in the United States from April 2019 through May 2022 for between $600 and $820. The saws were sold at Lowe's stores, The Home Depot, hardware stores nationwide, and online at Amazon.com, Lowes.com, and other websites. Only saws with date codes 2019 04 through 2022 04 are affected. The date codes for DWS779 and DWS780 models are marked on the black plastic motor end cap adjacent to the name plate. For the DHS790 model, the date code is marked on the outside of the plastic yellow housing adjacent to the batteries. Only saws without a green dot on the name plate or a black dot on the arm of the saw are included in this recall.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled miter saws and contact DeWALT for details on how to receive a free repair kit or to take their saw to a DeWALT service center for a free repair.
