DeWALT 18-inch Corded Chain Saws Recall for Unintended Operation

DeWALT is recalling about 8,500 DWCS600 18-inch corded chain saws because the tool can remain running when the switch is in the off position or turn on unexpectedly when plugged in, posing an injury hazard.

What this means for you

Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Our severity reasoning: This is a voluntary precautionary recall issued by a consumer product manufacturer. The source explicitly states no injuries have been reported. Although the hazard involves potential injury from unintended operation, the absence of any reported harm and the voluntary nature of the recall places this in the Moderate category.

Plain-English summary

DeWALT Industrial Tool Company is recalling the DEWALT DWCS600, Type 1 18-inch 15-amp corded chain saws. The chain saws are yellow with a black handle and motor cover. Only chain saws with date codes 2021 23-H5 to 2021 40-H5 are affected. The date code is stamped on the bottom of the chain saw, behind the chain/bar.

The hazard is that the chain saw can remain running when the switch is on the off position or turn on when plugged in, posing an injury hazard to the user. No injuries have been reported.

The affected chain saws were sold at hardware and tool supply stores nationwide from June 2021 through November 2021 for between $130 and $150.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chain saws and contact DeWALT to receive a pre-paid shipping label to return the product and receive a free replacement.
