What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where the winch may operate unintentionally, increasing the risk of injury, but no specific injuries or illnesses are reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Rosenbauer America is recalling certain 2020-2022 Commercial F-550, 2022 Commercial M2-106, M2-112, Commercial 567, 2021 Commander, and Avenger vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with certain Warn Industries VR EVO winches that include a wireless handheld remote.

Water may enter the handheld remote control for the winch, causing circuit board corrosion. This corrosion can allow the winch to operate unintentionally, which increases the risk of injury.

Rosenbauer will notify owners and provide instructions for inspecting the remote for corrosion, disabling the wireless function, and ordering a new wired remote if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 25, 2023. Owners may contact Rosenbauer customer service at 1-651-462-1000 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
