What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has been reported (six reports of cuts/lacerations), but no fatalities or serious injuries are documented, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for reported injuries without critical outcomes.
Plain-English summary
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and The Coleman Co. are recalling approximately 86,000 Coleman gas grills. The recall is due to a sharp edge on the metal heat shield located below the control panel. This sharp edge can cause lacerations to the hands, wrists, or arms when consumers access the propane cylinder underneath the grill.
Coleman has received six reports from consumers who sustained cuts or lacerations on their hands, wrists, or arms from the heat shield. The recalled grills are green and black with a red Coleman emblem on the cover. They feature a wheeled cart with side tables or a side burner, and a warming rack. Only grills with series numbers 2000 or 3000 are included in the recall; these numbers are located on the face plate on the right-hand side of the control panel.
The grills were sold nationwide at home improvement and discount department stores from January through April 2000 for between $350 and $500. Consumers should immediately contact Coleman to receive a free repair kit, which contains a plastic sheath to cover the sharp edge. Consumers may contact Coleman toll-free at (877) 846-1070 or visit the Coleman Grill website for more information.
