What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (fire/explosion hazard) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.
Plain-English summary
The Coleman Company, Inc. is recalling approximately 124,000 gas grills and 6,200 patio heaters due to a defect in the regulator assembly. The affected products include gas grills with model numbers 5100, 5300, 5400, 5600, 6000, and 7700, as well as patio heaters with model number 5040. These items were sold nationwide at Lowe's, Expo Design Centers, and various pool and patio retailers between January 2004 and July 2005.
The recall is necessary because the regulators on these products can leak propane when the propane cylinder is turned on and the product is not in use. This leak creates a potential fire or explosion hazard. Coleman has received 98 reports of regulators leaking propane, but the company has not received any reports of injuries or property damage.
Consumers should stop using the affected grills and heaters immediately. They should contact The Coleman Company, Inc. toll-free at (866) 584-8587 or visit www.coleman.com to arrange for a free replacement regulator assembly. Once the regulator is replaced, the products may be used safely.
