Plain-English summary
Woods Industries, Inc. is recalling approximately 1,000 Model 28003 ACDelco extension cord reels. The recalled products are round, red metal reels containing a black 30-foot retractable extension cord. They feature "ACDelco" printed in black letters on the case and a catalog number "28003" on the back label. Affected units have a date code of "Y MY" or "Y JE" (indicating May or June 1999 manufacture) and a silver-colored stud on the bottom mounting ring with no colored marking on the flat head. Units with red, blue, or green markings on the stud, or boxes with a green dot or "100% good" stamp, are not part of this recall.
The recall was issued because the housing of the extension cord reels could become energized, resulting in electrical shock or electrocution. No injuries have been reported in connection with this defect. The cord reels were sold at Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse stores nationwide from July 1999 through September 1999 for about $35.
Consumers should unplug the cord reels immediately and stop using them. To obtain a refund, consumers should return the reels to any Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse. For instructions on obtaining a free replacement reel or more information, consumers can call Woods Industries at (800) 224-1118.
