Plain-English summary

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for raw, ready-to-cook chicken entrée products produced by Tampa Bay Fisheries, Inc. The alert was issued because the products may contain egg, a known allergen, which is not declared on the finished product label. A formal recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase.

The affected product is the 12 oz. plastic wrapped metal container of “aprons READY TO COOK MEAL FOR ONE BACON-CHEDDAR SMOTHERED CHICKEN” with a use by date of 9/21/2022. These items were produced on Sept. 9, 2022, and bear establishment number P-48176. The products were shipped to Publix locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The issue was discovered when the establishment received notification that an incorrect label, associated with a product that does not contain egg, was placed on the container.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. FSIS is concerned that some products may still be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers with an egg allergy who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
