Plain-English summary
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for frozen, ready-to-eat bao curry chicken products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The product, labeled as bao Thai-style curry chicken, may actually contain teriyaki chicken bao products that include soy and sesame, which are not declared on the label. The affected items are 10-oz. boxes containing four “WOW BAO BAO THAI-STYLE CURRY CHICKEN” with a “best if used by” date of 4/12/25. These products were packaged on March 20, 2024, and shipped to Walmart retail locations nationwide.
The issue was identified after the producing establishment, Brett Anthony Foods, received a consumer complaint stating that a box labeled as curry chicken contained teriyaki chicken pouches. FSIS notes that a formal recall was not requested because the affected product is no longer available for purchase. However, the agency is concerned that some units may still be in consumers' freezers.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Consumers who have purchased these items are urged not to consume them and should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. Individuals concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.
