2025 Nissan Frontier daytime running lights may dim unexpectedly
Nissan is recalling certain 2025 Frontier vehicles due to a software error that can cause daytime running lights to dim unexpectedly when the engine restarts. This may confuse other drivers and increase crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm vehicle safety defect affecting visibility controls, with no injuries reported. The software error could increase crash risk through dimmed daytime running lights, meeting the criterion for Score 3: 'risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.'
Plain-English summary
Nissan North America is recalling certain 2025 Nissan Frontier vehicles due to a software logic error in the engine control module. When the idle start-stop feature cycles the engine from off to on, the daytime running lights may dim unexpectedly. These vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108 (Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment).
Daytime running lights help make vehicles visible to other drivers and pedestrians. When these lights dim unexpectedly, it may cause confusion and increase the risk of a crash.
The recall affects an estimated 13,719 vehicles of the 2025 Nissan Frontier model. Affected owners have received notification letters (owners were notified in September 2025).
Dealers will update the engine control module software free of charge. Owners with questions can contact Nissan customer service at 800-647-7261. The Nissan recall reference number is R25C3.
