2025 Freightliner and Related Trucks: Air Tank Capacity Braking Defect

Certain 2025 Freightliner, Western Star, and Cascadia trucks have insufficient air tank capacity, reducing brake performance and extending stopping distance. This increases crash risk and violates federal safety standards.

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC is recalling 68 units of 2025 Freightliner Business Class M2, 114SD, Cascadia, and Western Star 49X vehicles. These vehicles have an air tank with insufficient capacity for the brake system.

The undersized air tank results in reduced braking performance in these vehicles. This means the vehicles require a longer distance to stop, increasing the risk of a crash. The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 121, which governs air brake systems.

Owners of affected vehicles were notified by mail on July 1, 2025. To remedy this defect, authorized Freightliner/Western Star dealers will inspect the air tank and either replace it or install an additional air tank at no cost.
