Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick 12-volt batteries can suddenly fail

Ford is recalling certain 2021-2023 Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles because the 12-volt battery may degrade and suddenly fail, cutting electrical accessories or drive power.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: sudden battery failure can cause a loss of drive power as well as loss of the hazard lights, not merely a degraded function.

Plain-English summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2021-2023 Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles. About 272,817 units are potentially affected.

The 12-volt battery may experience degradation and suddenly fail.

NHTSA states that battery failure can result in a loss of electrical accessories, including the hazard lights, or cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the 12-volt battery free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 2, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
