Multiple Hyundai and Genesis Electric Vehicle Models - Drive Power Loss From Charging Unit Failure
Hyundai is recalling certain 2022-2024 Ioniq 5 and 2023-2025 Ioniq 6 vehicles, plus Genesis models. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may fail, preventing the 12-volt battery from charging and causing loss of drive power, which increases crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This is a NHTSA vehicle recall involving loss of propulsion—a structural defect of the electrical system. The defect prevents charging of the 12-volt battery, resulting in loss of drive power and directly increasing crash risk. The large number of affected units (145,642) and the critical nature of the safety hazard classify this as a severe defect.
Plain-English summary
Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 vehicles from model years 2022-2024 and 2023-2025 respectively, as well as Genesis GV60, GV70 Electrified, and G80 Electrified vehicles. The defect involves the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) in the vehicle's electrical system.
The ICCU may become damaged and stop charging the vehicle's 12-volt battery. Without proper battery charging, the vehicle can lose drive power. Loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Hyundai dealers will inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse as necessary, and will update the ICCU software. All repairs are performed free of charge. Owners received notification letters on December 20, 2024. Owners can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 or Genesis customer service at 1-844-340-9741. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline is available at 1-888-327-4236.
This recall affects a total of 145,642 vehicles. It expands and replaces previous recall number 24V-204, and vehicles previously repaired under that recall will need to have the new remedy completed.
