BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain 2018-2023 BMW X3 vehicles (including sDrive30i, xDrive30i, M40i, and X3 M model variants) due to a defect in the interior cargo rail attachment. The bolts attaching the rear cargo rail may become damaged during a rear-impact crash.
If the attachment bolts fail, the cargo rail may detach from the vehicle. Interior cargo rail detachment during a rear crash can increase the risk of injury to occupants.
An estimated 282,387 vehicles are affected by this recall. Dealers will replace the rear cargo rail attachment bolts at no cost to owners. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning January 2, 2024.
