Kia America, Inc. is recalling certain 2023 Kia Niro EV vehicles. The differential gear bolts in the gear drive unit may not be tightened properly. This defect can result in a loss of drive power or cause the differential to lock up.

When the differential locks up or loses power during driving, it can increase the risk of a crash. Approximately 8 vehicles are affected by this recall.

Owners will receive notification letters from Kia (sent starting May 17, 2024). Dealers will replace the gear drive unit free of charge. Owners can contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 for more information or to schedule service. The recall number is SC308.
