2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee high beam headlights may not activate quickly
Chrysler is recalling certain 2023-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles because the high beam headlights may fail to activate quickly when the master headlight switch is in AUTO mode, reducing visibility and increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall addresses a functional vehicle defect that can reduce visibility and increase crash risk, but no injuries or deaths have been reported. It fits the rubric criterion for High severity as a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 9,433 of its 2023 and 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles, including the Grand Cherokee L model. When the master headlight switch is set to the AUTO position, the driver may be unable to quickly activate the high beams. This defect prevents the vehicles from meeting the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, which governs lamps and reflective devices.
High beam headlights that do not activate as intended can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will reconfigure the vehicle high beam parameters for affected owners at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 7, 2024.
Owners who believe their vehicle is affected should contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
