2024 Volvo XC40 Left Rear Turn Signal May Not Function

Certain 2024 Volvo XC40 vehicles may have a software error in the Central Electronic Module that disables the left rear turn signal indicator, increasing the risk of a crash if other drivers are not notified of turning.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm product (vehicle with a disabled exterior safety signal) where no injuries or deaths have been reported. The nonfunctioning turn signal increases crash risk but is not yet associated with reported accidents, meeting the Score 3 criterion.

Plain-English summary

Volvo Car USA, LLC is recalling certain 2024 XC40 vehicles due to a diagnostic error in the Central Electronic Module (CEM) software. This error may cause the left rear turn signal indicator to not function properly.
