What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves malfunctioning turn signals and high beams, affecting compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 and creating an increased risk of crashes due to reduced visibility. No injuries or deaths have been reported, keeping this at High rather than Severe.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2023 Ram 1500 Classic, Ram 3500 Classic, 3500 Cab Chassis, 2023-2024 Ram 2500, 4500/5500 Cab Chassis, and Ram 3500 vehicles. The steering column control module (SCCM) software may malfunction, causing the high beams to activate when the turn signal is used, or causing the turn signal to activate when the high beams are used. Additionally, the turn signal self-canceling feature may not function properly.
These malfunctions prevent the vehicles from complying with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108 (Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment). Non-functioning turn signals and high beams can cause confusion or reduced visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the SCCM software and inspect and replace the module as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on December 19, 2023.
