Prevost motorcoaches recalled for driver assist sensor obstruction and braking failure risk
Prevost is recalling 2022-2024 H3-45 VIP motorcoaches and 2024 H3-45 models because an incorrect bumper trim panel obstructs the radar sensor, preventing the driver assist system from functioning properly and increasing the risk of crashes.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a vehicle safety system defect affecting automatic emergency braking and forward collision avoidance functionality. While no injuries or crashes have been reported, the defect involves a critical safety system that could cause unexpected braking or failure to brake, increasing crash risk. Per the rubric, risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported score at 3 (High).
Plain-English summary
Prevost Car (US) Inc. is recalling certain 2022, 2023, and 2024 model year H3-45 VIP motorcoaches and 2024 model year H3-45 motorcoaches equipped with Prevost Driver Assist. The recall involves an incorrect front bumper trim panel that can obstruct the forward-facing radar sensor used by the driver assist system.
When the radar sensor is obstructed, the driver assist system (Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking) may not function properly. The system could engage the brakes unexpectedly or fail to engage the brakes when needed, both of which increase the risk of a crash.
A total of 183 vehicles are potentially affected by this defect. Owner notification letters were mailed on January 23, 2024.
Prevost will inspect and replace the front bumper panel as necessary at no cost to the owner. Owners should contact Prevost customer service at 1-866-870-2046, or call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information. Prevost's internal recall number is SR23-43.
