Plain-English summary
Ford is recalling certain 2023 F-53 recreational stripped chassis and F-59 commercial stripped chassis vehicles due to corrosion in the Smart Data Link Connector (SDLC). This corrosion may interfere with Controller Area Network (CAN) communication, causing the instrument panel to become inoperative.
An inoperative instrument panel cannot display critical safety information, including the speedometer and warning lights. This failure increases the risk of a crash and violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 101 (Control and Displays) and 105 (Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems).
The recall affects 5,558 vehicles. Owners should contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153). Dealers will inspect and replace the SDLC module and install a wire harness connector, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 26, 2023.
