This error can impair the performance of the electronic stability control (ESC) system, causing the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 136, "Electronic Stability Control Systems on Heavy Vehicles."

An impaired electronic stability control program may result in a delayed response or insufficient braking force when activated, which increases the risk of a crash. The defect is related to the control module software within the ESC system.

Dealers will update the ABS controller software free of charge to correct the issue. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 23, 2023.
