Vehicle recall: Mercedes-Benz G550 and AMG G63 front axle wiring chafe
2019–2021 Mercedes-Benz G550 and AMG G63 models may lose anti-lock brakes and stability control due to front axle wiring harness chafing against the oil cooler, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves loss of critical safety systems (anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control) that increase crash risk. No injuries or crashes have been reported, and the hazard is potential rather than confirmed, placing this at the high end of non-severe recalls.
Plain-English summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2019–2021 G550 and AMG G63 vehicles. According to the recall notice, the front axle wiring harness may chafe against an oil cooler and become damaged. When damaged, this wiring harness can cause a loss of anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC), which are critical safety systems that help prevent vehicle crashes.
A loss of ABS or ESC increases the risk of a crash in emergency braking or traction-loss situations. Owners should contact their MBUSA dealer or customer service to have their vehicle inspected. Dealers will install a protective sleeve or replace the front axle wiring harness as necessary, free of charge.
