The 2022 Jeep Compass instrument panel center cluster display may be insufficiently illuminated and may not be visible during daytime driving. This could prevent drivers from seeing safety-critical information like the fuel gauge and warning lights.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a safety-critical vehicle component with an actual defect (insufficient display illumination) that creates a demonstrated risk of harm by preventing visibility of fuel gauge and warning lights, potentially increasing crash risk. Per the severity rubric, this qualifies as a 'risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported,' scoring 3 (High).
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022 Jeep Compass vehicles. The instrument panel center cluster display may be insufficiently illuminated and may not appear visible during daytime driving conditions. These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, which specifies visibility requirements for control and display.
An instrument panel display that is not visible to the driver may prevent the driver from seeing safety-critical information, such as the fuel gauge and warning lights. This can increase the risk of a crash. Approximately 90 vehicles are affected.
To remedy the issue, dealers will replace the windshield and headlamp switch, add a light sensor module, and add a wiring jumper harness, at no charge to owners. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 30, 2023. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
