Chrysler is recalling certain 2022 RAM 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 vehicles with Cummins diesel engines. The engine control module may have a misaligned capacitor that can short-circuit, causing loss of drive power and increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This structural vehicle defect can theoretically cause loss of drive power and increase crash risk, but no injuries or deaths have been reported. The severity rubric places such undemonstrated hazards at High, not Severe, absent injury reports.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022 RAM 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 vehicles equipped with Cummins 6.7L turbo diesel engines. The affected vehicles contain an engine control module (ECM) that may have been built with a misaligned capacitor. Approximately 4,907 vehicles are affected by this recall.
A misaligned capacitor in the ECM can short-circuit, resulting in an internal loss of communication between the module and engine systems. This loss of communication can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Owners will receive notification of this recall. Dealers will replace the ECM free of charge. Affected owners can contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 for more information or to schedule service.
