What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a structural vehicle defect affecting a safety-critical rear visibility system that fails to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111. Although no crashes or injuries have been reported, the defect directly increases the risk of crashes by preventing the rearview camera from displaying correctly.
Plain-English summary
Toyota is recalling certain 2022 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system due to incorrect programming of the parking assist electronic control unit (ECU) software. When these vehicles are placed in reverse, the front camera image may display instead of the rear camera image, which fails to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111 (Rear Visibility).
A rearview camera that displays the wrong image reduces the driver's rear view and increases the risk of a crash. Approximately 31,428 vehicles are affected by this defect.
