Ford F-Series and E-Series Vehicles Missing Tire Information on Safety Labels
Ford is recalling certain 2022 F-Series and 2023 E-Series vehicles whose Safety Certification Labels are missing tire size, rim type, and pressure values. The missing information could lead to incorrect tire selection or pressure, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a labeling defect on a safety-critical component that could lead to vehicle crashes due to incorrect tire selection or pressure. No injuries have been reported, fitting the 'High' severity criterion of risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2022 F-Super Duty vehicles (F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600) and 2023 E-Series vehicles (E-150, E-250, E-350, E-450). Additionally, certain earlier model-year vehicles that received reprinted labels are included: 2016 E-Series, 2017 and 2019 F-450, 2021 F-350, and 2021 Transit vehicles. In total, approximately 5,247 vehicles are affected.
The Safety Certification Labels on these vehicles are missing tire size, rim type, and tire pressure values for both the front and rear axles. This omission violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 110 and 120. Without this critical information, owners or technicians may install incorrect tires or rims, or set incorrect tire pressure when servicing the vehicle.
Missing tire information could lead to an incorrect tire or rim being installed, or incorrect tire pressure, increasing the risk of a crash.
To remedy the issue, Ford dealers will replace the Safety Certification Label free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 6, 2022. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
