2020 Audi S7 and Related Models: Fuel Gauge Malfunction Recall
Volkswagen Group (Audi) is recalling certain 2019-2022 A6, A7, S6, S7, RS6 Avant, and RS7 vehicles because the fuel level sender may stick, causing inaccurate fuel gauge readings that could lead to engine stalls and crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall addresses a fuel level sender defect that could cause engine stalls and increase crash risk. Since no injuries or crashes have been reported, the hazard is theoretical, making this a Score 3 (High) per the rubric criterion for risk-of-harm products without reported incidents.
Plain-English summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., doing business as Audi, is recalling certain 2019-2022 model year A6, A7, S6, S7, RS6 Avant, and RS7 vehicles. The fuel level sender in the fuel tank may stick in certain positions, preventing accurate fuel level readings on the vehicle's instrument cluster.
When the fuel level sender malfunctions and provides inaccurate readings, the driver may not have reliable information about their remaining fuel. This can result in engine stall due to fuel depletion, which increases the risk of a crash.
Audi has instructed dealers to install a new fuel tank sensor at no charge to affected vehicle owners. Owner notification letters were mailed on February 17, 2023. Owners can contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 with questions or to schedule an appointment. For more information, owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
The NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 22V155000, and Audi's internal recall number is 20DN.
