2022 Keystone Cougar Tires: Load Range Defect Increases Crash Risk

Keystone RV recalls 2022 Cougar trailers with incorrectly specified tires. Load Range D tires were installed instead of required Load Range E, creating overload and crash risk.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This recall addresses a risk-of-harm product (tires with incorrect load-range specifications) where no injuries have been reported. The defect creates a risk of vehicle overloading and crashes, meeting the criteria for High-severity classification.

Plain-English summary

Keystone RV Company is recalling certain 2022 Cougar fifth wheel travel trailers because they were manufactured with Load Range "D" tires (rated for 2540 lbs) instead of the required Load Range "E" tires (rated for 2860 lbs).

Load Range D tires have a lower weight capacity than Load Range E tires. Installing the wrong load range allows the vehicle to potentially exceed the tire weight capacity, increasing the risk of overloading and crashing.

The recall affects 118 vehicles. If you own a 2022 Cougar, contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369 to schedule an inspection. Dealers will inspect and replace the tires free of charge.
