Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. is recalling certain 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 vehicles due to a defect in the headlight aiming mechanism. Specifically, caps were installed on the vertical aim adjustment instead of the horizontal aim adjustment, allowing the horizontal headlight beam to be adjusted when it should not be. This configuration violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, which governs lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.

The incorrectly positioned caps can result in improper headlight beam adjustment. When the horizontal beam is adjusted, it can increase glare for oncoming drivers, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

Approximately 3,240 vehicles are potentially affected by this defect. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 18, 2021. Volkswagen dealers will remove the caps from the vertical aim and install them on the horizontal aim at no charge to owners.
