What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a structural steering defect in motorcycles that can cause oversteer and increase crash risk. Although no injuries or deaths are reported, the defect affects a critical vehicle system, meeting the criterion for a structural vehicle defect.
Plain-English summary
Arcimoto Inc. is recalling certain 2019-2021 model year motorcycles, including the FUV, Deliverator, Roadster, and Rapid Responder. The Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) in these vehicles may have been incorrectly calibrated, which can cause the sensor to fail to detect a fault or incorrectly detect one.
When a failure mode is detected, the inverters may apply unequal torque to the wheels, causing oversteer. This condition increases the risk of a crash.
Owners should contact Arcimoto customer service at 1-541-683-6293 to schedule a free repair. A service technician will update the firmware and replace the idler arm. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 27, 2021. Consumers can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.safercar.gov.
