RV Chassis steering column defect may cause loss of steering

Shyft Group is recalling certain 2021-2022 Spartan RV Chassis K1-K4 vehicles. A steering column defect may cause the steering output shaft to disengage, resulting in loss of steering control and crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting the steering system. A disengaged steering output shaft could result in complete loss of steering control, which is a critical safety hazard regardless of whether injuries have been reported to date.

Plain-English summary

Shyft Group is recalling certain 2021-2022 Spartan RV Chassis K1, K2, K3, and K4 vehicles. The steering output shaft inside the steering column may be too short and could disengage from the steering input shaft.

If the steering output shaft disengages, it could result in loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Owners should contact Shyft Group customer service at 1-800-582-3454 to arrange an inspection and replacement of the steering column, which will be performed free of charge. The recall began on March 31, 2021.
