Porsche Recalls Macan Models Due to Front Passenger Air Bag Sensor Defect
Porsche is recalling certain 2015-2018 Macan models because the front passenger seat occupancy sensor may fail to detect a passenger, preventing the air bag from deploying.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where the air bag may fail to deploy, increasing the risk of injury in a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury risk.
Plain-English summary
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2017-2018 Macan, Macan Turbo, Macan GTS, and 2015-2018 Macan S vehicles. The recall involves approximately 39,547 vehicles.
The front passenger seat occupancy sensor mat may degrade and fail to detect a passenger in the front seat. If a front passenger is undetected, the air bag will not deploy during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the sensor mat and seat cushion free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 25, 2021. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
