The recall affects vehicles equipped with a center display using a NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor and an 8GB eMMC NAND flash memory device. When this memory device reaches its lifetime wear limit, the controller may fail to maintain filesystem integrity, causing some center display functions to fail.

This defect can result in the loss of the rearview camera display, defrost/defog control settings, and exterior turn signal lighting. These failures reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash. The recall began on March 29, 2021.

Owners should ensure their vehicles are operating firmware release 2020.48.48.12 or newer, which alerts owners if the memory is approaching lifetime wear. Tesla will notify owners and replace the VCM daughterboard with one containing an enhanced eMMC controller at no charge.
