Chrysler Recalls 2013-2016 Dodge Dart Vehicles for Shifter Cable Defect

Chrysler is recalling 2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles with 6-speed automatic transmissions because the shifter cable bushing may fail, allowing the cable to detach and increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (shifter cable detachment) that can cause the vehicle to roll away or fail to shift, significantly increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects and significant injury risk.

Plain-English summary

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with 6-speed automatic transmissions. The recall addresses a defect where the shifter cable bushing may fail, allowing the shift cable to detach from the transmission.

If the shifter cable detaches, the vehicle may not perform the shifts selected by the driver. Additionally, despite selecting PARK with the shifter, the vehicle may roll away. These scenarios may increase the risk of a crash.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the transmission side shifter cable bushing free of charge. The recall began on September 5, 2019. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Note that this recall will be replaced by NHTSA recall number 25V674, and vehicles already repaired under this recall will need to have the new remedy completed.
