Airstream Recalls 2019 Basecamp X Vehicles Due to Incorrect Tire Placard Information
Airstream is recalling 2019 Basecamp X recreational vehicles because the tire placard lists incorrect tire sizes and pressure requirements, which could lead to overinflation and increased crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where incorrect tire pressure information could lead to overinflation and a crash, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Plain-English summary
Airstream, Inc. is recalling certain 2019 Airstream Basecamp X recreational vehicles. The recall involves 189 vehicles where the Federal Certification Label and Tire Placard may contain incorrect information. Specifically, the labels may state that the vehicles are equipped with 235/55R18 Load Range D tires requiring 80 psi, when the vehicles are actually equipped with 235/75R15 Load Range D tires requiring 51 psi. As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
If the tire information is incorrect, the operator may overinflate the tires, which increases the risk of a crash. Airstream has notified owners and will send them a new corrected Federal Certification Label and Tire Placard free of charge. The recall began on February 22, 2019.
Owners may contact Airstream customer service at 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 extension 7401 or 7411. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.safercar.gov.
