Airstream Recalls 2017 Trailers Due to Incorrect Tire Certification Labels
Airstream is recalling 2017 Sport, International, and Flying Cloud trailers because incorrect tire labels could lead to overinflation and tire blowouts.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (tire blowout leading to crash) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the High severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
Airstream, Inc. is recalling certain 2017 Flying Cloud, International, and Sport recreational trailers. The recall involves 82 vehicles where the Federal Certification label and Tire Placards contain incorrect information. Specifically, the labels were printed for ST225/75R15 Load Range E tires, but the vehicles are equipped with ST225/75R15 Load Range D tires. As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims," and Part 567, "Certification."
The incorrect information on the labels could cause an owner to overinflate the tires. This overinflation could possibly result in a tire blowout, which increases the risk of a crash. No injuries or crashes have been reported in connection with this defect.
Airstream will notify owners, and dealers will replace the incorrect label with a corrected label free of charge. The recall began on February 15, 2017. Owners may contact Airstream customer service at 1-937-596-6111, extension 7401 or 7411. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
