Arcimoto Recalls 2017 FUV Motorcycles Due to Brake System Defect

Arcimoto is recalling 2017 FUV motorcycles because the brake system design may fail to meet federal stopping distance requirements, increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the braking system that fails to comply with federal safety standards, creating a significant risk of crash and injury.

Plain-English summary

Arcimoto Inc. is recalling certain 2017 FUV motorcycles. The affected vehicles were built with a front/rear split brake system instead of the required left/right split brake system. This design flaw means that if the front brake system fails, the rear brake system may not allow the vehicle to meet the minimum stopping distance requirements mandated by Federal Motor Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 122.

If the brakes cannot stop the motorcycle within the required distance, there is an increased risk of a crash. Arcimoto has contacted owners and will replace the existing brake lines with new brake lines featuring an updated design, free of charge.
