Mercedes-Benz Recalls 2018 GLC Models for Incorrect Turn Signal Color

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 2018 GLC models because the front turn signals may be pink or violet instead of the required color, potentially reducing visibility to other drivers.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a defect that increases the risk of a crash due to reduced visibility of turn signals, fitting the criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2018 GLC300 4MATIC Coupe, GLC300, GLC300 4MATIC, GLC350e 4MATIC, GLC43 AMG 4MATIC Coupe, and GLC43 AMG 4MATIC vehicles equipped with LED headlights. The recall involves 4,702 vehicles.

The front turn signals on these vehicles may have an incorrect color of pink or violet. This condition causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." Turn signals that are the wrong color may not be as easily recognized by other drivers, which increases the risk of a crash.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the color of the turn signal and replace the LED module as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on November 2, 2018. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
