Prevost Recalls Motor Coaches Due to Fuel Tank Cradle Defect
Prevost is recalling 2008-2018 motor coaches because fuel tank cradles may loosen, causing the tank to fall off and increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where the fuel tank can detach, creating a road hazard and stalling the vehicle, which aligns with the rubric criteria for a Severe (4) rating.
Plain-English summary
Prevost Cars, Inc. is recalling certain 2008-2018 H3-41, H3-45, H3-45 VIP, X3-45, X3-45 VIP, X3-45 VIP Entertainer, and XL2 motor coaches. The recall involves 3,163 vehicles where the fuel tank cradle supports may have gaps at the connection points to the coach frame.
These gaps can allow attachment bolts to loosen and fail, causing the fuel tank to fall from the vehicle. If the fuel tank separates, it creates a road hazard and causes the vehicle to stall, both of which increase the risk of a crash.
Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will correct the fuel tank cradle mounting free of charge. The recall began on December 4, 2017. Owners may contact Prevost customer service at 1-866-870-2046 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
