Forest River Forester Motorhomes Recalled for Inaccurate Federal Placard Information

Forest River is recalling 2018 Forester motorhomes because the Federal Placard may incorrectly state the vehicle has single rear wheels instead of dual rear wheels.

What this means for you

Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a labeling error that creates a risk of improper tire maintenance and potential crash risk, but no injuries or deaths are reported, fitting the criteria for moderate severity.

Plain-English summary

Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain 2018 Forester motorhomes, model FRC3271SF. The recall addresses an issue where the Federal Placard may inaccurately state that the vehicle is equipped with single rear wheels and tires, when the vehicle actually has dual rear wheels and tires. This inaccuracy causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 120 and 49 CFR Part 567.

The incorrect placard information may cause the operator to not properly maintain the tires and/or wheels. Failure to maintain the tires may lead to improper handling, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.

Forest River will notify owners and provide a corrected Placard free of charge. The recall began on October 18, 2017. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-206-7600 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
