Forest River Surveyor Recalled for Incorrect Federal Tire Placard Information
Forest River is recalling 2018 Surveyor recreational trailers because the Federal Placard lists incorrect tire sizes and pressures, which could lead to over-inflation and increased crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where the defect (incorrect tire pressure information) could lead to a crash, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported in the source text.
Plain-English summary
Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain 2018 Forest River Surveyor recreational trailers, model ORSVT247BHDS. The recall addresses a defect where the Federal Placard on these vehicles incorrectly indicates a tire size of ST225/75R15D requiring 65 PSI and a rim designation of 15X6.0JJ. In reality, the vehicles are equipped with ST205/75R14C tires requiring 50 PSI and a rim designation of 14X5.5JJ.
This discrepancy causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims," and 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification." If an operator follows the incorrect information on the placard, they may over-inflate the tires. This can cause premature tire wear, which increases the risk of a crash.
The recall began on April 11, 2018. Forest River has notified owners and will provide a corrected Federal Placard free of charge. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-3111 extension 205. Forest River's number for this recall is 47-0698.
